Welcome to Hayes Horticultural Society whose roots go back 131 years when Hayes Silver Band played at an impromptu flower and vegetable show in 1892. In July the same year, a small scale flower and vegetable show – later to become
the Cottage Gardeners’ Association’s Annual Show – was staged at the Hayes School Treat and Village Sports. There
were eight classes, attracting 32 entries.
Times, and our title, have changed since then. But despite two world wars and the latterly closing of neighbouring
societies, we are blooming still, with four shows a year at Hayes Village Hall – Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
Our allotments, too, at Constance Crescent, are thriving, with improved facilities for plotholders in progress.
New members are welcome, and you don’t need to be a Monty Don to exhibit. There’s always someone at hand
to help. And if your carrots and chrysanthemums are not up to scratch, there are classes for cooking, arts and
crafts and photographs.
As well as our giant plant sale in May, the society provides judges for Hayes Village Association’s
Best Front Garden competition. It also has a stall at the June Hayes Fair.
Here’s to the next 100 years!
